Why You Feel Stuck (And How Hypnosis Can Help You Move Forward)

If you’re feeling a bit stuck at the moment, or like you’re overthinking everything but still not really moving forward, this is something I’ve been talking about a lot recently.

I’ve been having quite a few conversations like this lately, both in sessions and just generally, where people describe this feeling of being a bit stuck in life. They talk about overthinking things, trying to make the right decisions, going over everything again and again… and yet, despite all of that effort, they don’t feel like they’re actually moving forward.

It’s often that sense of having a lot on your mind, wanting to get things right, thinking things through carefully, and somehow ending up feeling more stuck rather than clearer.

I really recognise that feeling, because it’s something I’ve experienced myself at times as well. You can be doing all the right things on paper, being thoughtful and careful, trying your best to work things out, and still feel like something just isn’t quite clicking into place.

Why Overthinking Can Make You Feel Stuck

What tends to be going on in those moments isn’t a lack of effort, and it’s not that there aren’t opportunities or possibilities there. It’s more that the mind is so busy trying to figure everything out, trying to get it right and stay on top of things, that it becomes quite hard to notice what’s already available.

When your system is in that slightly heightened, overthinking state, your attention naturally narrows. You become much more aware of what could go wrong, what you might miss, what you should or shouldn’t do, and much less aware of the small openings that are happening around you all the time.

So it can start to feel like nothing is happening, when actually it’s more that your mind doesn’t quite have the space to see it.

How Hypnosis Helps Change Your Thinking

This is where hypnosis can be really helpful, and I think it’s often misunderstood. It’s not about being put under or losing control. What you’re really doing is focusing your attention in a very particular way, so your mind becomes quieter, less busy, and a bit more open.

In hypnotherapy, we use this focused state quite deliberately, because the mind tends to respond more strongly to ideas and suggestions when it is calmer and less distracted.

And in that state, something quite important happens. The way you speak to yourself starts to land differently. The thoughts you have about yourself, about situations, and about what might happen next don’t just pass through in the same way. They begin to settle a little more.

Why Suggestions Matter More Than People Realise

We are all giving ourselves suggestions all the time, whether we realise it or not. Thoughts like “this probably won’t work out,” or “I’m not sure I can handle that,” or “I always get this wrong” can become quite repetitive, especially when you’re feeling under pressure.

Over time, those kinds of thoughts begin to feel more convincing, and they shape how you respond, what you notice, and what you do next.

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy give you a way of working with that process more deliberately. When your mind is calmer and more focused, and you begin to introduce more supportive suggestions about your ability, your value, and your capacity to handle things, those suggestions tend to settle more easily. They begin to influence how you think and respond in a way that feels natural and believable.

It isn’t about forcing yourself to think positively. It’s about giving your mind something more useful to organise around.

How Using Your Imagination Can Change How You Respond

The other part of this is the imagination, which is something we are all using anyway, often without even noticing it. If you think about it, when you are worrying about something, you are already using your imagination. You are imagining things going wrong, imagining how something might play out, imagining how you might feel.

In hypnosis, we simply guide that same ability in a more helpful direction. Instead of imagining things not working out, you begin to imagine yourself coping, responding well, handling situations, stepping into opportunities, and moving forward in your life.

When you do that in a calmer, more focused state, your mind starts to become more familiar with that way of being. It begins to feel more possible, more natural, and that often shows up in how you respond in real life without you having to push yourself.

How Hypnotherapy Helps You Move Forward

When you bring these elements together, a calmer state, more helpful suggestions, and using your imagination in a more supportive way, you start to create the conditions for change.

It is not about forcing things to happen or trying to control everything. It is about allowing your thinking and your responses to shift in a way that opens things up again.

That is usually the point where people begin to notice that things start moving and they feel more able to move forward in their lives.

Why I Created This Hypnosis Recording

I recorded a hypnosis for myself the other day, simply to give myself a bit of space from thinking and planning and doing. What I noticed afterwards was that I felt more settled, more open, and a bit more receptive to things, rather than trying to make everything happen.

It made me think how helpful that kind of reset can be, especially when your mind has been constantly busy.

So I have created a version of that recording to share.

Aligned and Ready to Receive – Guided Hypnosis

This recording is designed to help you settle your mind and body, and gently guide your attention towards feeling more steady, more confident, and more open to opportunities and things working in your favour.

It uses focused attention, supportive suggestions, and imagination to help your mind begin organising in a more helpful way.

The best way to use it is to listen when you can give yourself ten minutes without interruption, ideally once a day for a few days, and just allow yourself to follow along without trying to do it perfectly.

Just See What You Notice

If you can, listen to it for a few days and simply notice what shifts for you, even in small ways.

You might feel a little clearer, a little more at ease, or find yourself responding differently in situations where you might usually overthink.

And sometimes, it shows up in more practical ways as well. I noticed this myself recently when I recorded a version of this for me. I had been focusing more on the idea of things coming towards me, rather than feeling like I had to make everything happen, and within a day I had a refund come through that I wasn’t expecting, and I also sold something that had been sitting there for a while. It wasn’t anything dramatic, but it was noticeable.

I don’t think that’s a coincidence. There’s something about where your attention goes and what you expect that seems to influence what you notice, what you act on, and what you allow into your life. When your thinking shifts in that direction, things can begin to open up in ways that feel quite natural.

And very often, it is those small changes that begin to change things over time.
